Hello!
My first class in this
period was in basic level again, but this time with teacher Hercilia de Salas.
Let me tell you that some
of the students are shy, I understand them because is their first year at the
university, so they feel kind of nervous when they have to speak.
They are studying the
simple past and in the warm up activity I asked them to stand up and make a
circle, I played some music and they had to dance, when the music stopped they
had to get in partners, and the one that does not get a partner had to tell me
some rules about the simple past. I explained to them about the verb to be in
the simple past. I could see they got the explanation, at the end as a wrap up I
did a dictation, using the simple past.
I felt comfortable, I consider
that the practices have helped us a lot, and I have realized that every group
has it special touch; the teacher liked the class, and I liked the feedbacks because
I learned from it. I also feel comfortable with the grade as well!!!
I liked this class,
however the students did not want to participate but I enjoy it!!

Hello Maggie. I know some students are sort of shy and that's why I try to give them confidence since the very begin. Practices help us to see what's good and what's wrong, so that we can improve. It's a gradual process. It's good you felt comfortable; in that way, you feel free to work as you think is suitable. Well done!

ReplyDeleteYou pointed something really nice "I liked the class, however the students didn't want to participate..." It is nice because you know well the kind of students you have and you know that they don't participate maybe because they are afraid and many other things. I remember when I was in Basic....it was really hard to speak and to participate during class, specially with someone who is not the former teacher.
You did it great cousin. I liked the variety of activities and the warm-up!

Dear Maggie!!!!! as you said baby at this point we all have lost the fear, and that is really good because now we can see things that maybe in the first classes we didn´t realize...working with basic groups is really nice...they give you the opportunity to implement your personal touch when explaining the grammar part or just giving them an activity. So nice to hear that you felt comfortable....congrats dear Maggi!!!

ReplyDeleteI think that it is really important to make students participate in class, however; with basic students is not so easy to make them speak a lot because they have fear to make mistakes. And it is normal, but as teachers we must worry about and try to find other ways to make them practice the language. Good job, continue working hard!! BLESSINGS...
I agree! We all feel confident when being in front of the students now. It has been a great way to lose the fear of standing in front of a group to teach. Now that you are on basic, you can see that it is hard to adapt yourself to them. You have to low your pace to help them learn. Anyways, you will do well on the following class as you did on this one. :) CHeers Megui! :D
